Power of Play Lunch

September 17, 2008

11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Bicentennial Pavilion, Hotel Murano

The Children's Museum of Tacoma's Power of Play Luncheon raises awareness of early learning issues as it simultaneously raises critical operating dollars for the Museum.

This year's guest speaker is Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire, who created the Department of Early Learning (DEL), the first Cabinet-level agency of its kind in the nation. DEL focuses on children's earliest years of life, ages birth to six, offering information and resources for children's first and most important teachers – parents.

Come hear her insights on the importance of playful early learning opportunities, and support the Children's Museum of Tacoma!

Lunch tickets are $50 each

Purchase tickets.

You will have an opportunity at the lunch to make a tax deductible contribution to share the Museum's nurturing brand of play with those in need.

All donations made at the Power of Play Lunch directly support Museum activities thanks to sponsorship by Laird Norton and Columbia Bank.

This year's Power of Play Lunch is is chaired by Charley Bingham.

Pierce County’s Great Friend to Kids Award

This year's event also marks the beginning of a new tradition, presenting Pierce County's Great Friend to Kids Award to honor individuals and organizations in our area who have made outstanding contributions to enriching the lives of children and supporting the power of play.

Rick Allen, President of United Way of Pierce County was selected as the first recipient. He helped expand ECEAP and Head Start and start Family Support Centers in Pierce County. He also helped drive the creation of the Pierce County Early Learning Consortium to respond to research which suggests that proper developmental care for young children improves their success in school and later in life.
