The Museum Selects a New Home

We’ve found a new home!

The Children’s Museum of Tacoma has signed a lease with United Way of Pierce County for approximately 8,700 square feet at 1501 Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma.

Why We’re Jumping for Joy

The Museum has outgrown its current location and has been looking for a new one for nearly three years. It’s been a long search, but we think we’ve found a great new home.

“I am thrilled! Given the current challenges we are all facing, this is a great solution for the Museum, for funders and for families. We gain more space and realize a rent savings, giving us more room and resources to do what we do best: play. Our supporters are funding more direct services rather than just bricks and mortar. For families, that means more room to play in a new, enhanced space and in Pierce County’s neighborhoods at our expanding Play to Learn program.”
     Tanya Andrews, Executive Director

“We couldn’t be more pleased. Our community told us what they wanted and we’re making it happen by securing a larger, more visible downtown location and pairing it with aggressive outreach. This is the right size move for the Museum and our community.”
     Joanne Bamford, 2009-2010 Board President

The move to a new, larger space also fulfills objectives of the Museum's five-year Strategic Plan. It's just one of the priorities that will allow us to increase capacity, audience and access; promote fun, learning and the wonder of childhood; and demonstrate innovation, playfulness and excellence.

Reactivating the Capital Campaign

The Capital Campaign for a new Museum is being co-chaired by dedicated Museum supporters Jacquie Boyd and Joanne Bamford. They will meet with their leadership team in early May to determine project needs and campaign goals.

With help from the community, the Museum can positively impact the social, emotional and cognitive abilities of our Pierce County children, families and communities for generations to come. Get involved.

We invite you to contact us about the new space, the campaign or for a personal tour of our current home.
